We appreciate your help in asking Missouri’s governor, Jay Nixon, to restore public library funding totaling approximately $6.1 million dollars. State aid to libraries and state funding for our internet connectivity was budgeted but not released this year. For the next budget year, Governor Nixon has already announced that the $6.1 million dollars for state aid to libraries and for library internet connectivity will be completely eliminated.
The Ray County Library is facing a loss of $19,250. In the total Missouri state budget, this is such a small amount but it makes all the difference in the world to Missouri public libraries and the people we serve. All public libraries in Missouri are affected, but the smaller the public library, the more they depend on the state funding. An unintended consequence of Governor Nixon’s decision means the Missouri State Library will lose our state’s share of federal funding for libraries starting in 2018.
Please consider sending Governor Nixon a letter in support of public libraries. Just click on Governor Letter to find an example letter to send.Thank you for your support!
